You can change the default format from the Real formats to several other
choices.

I'd have to say that real player would win against playing all filetypes
even though it may be hard to get used to. Its easy to make a playlist,
and at least in my experience its a good all-around player. You can rip
music from real player, too. It it doesn't get much simpler: put a cd
into the tray and have it rip to your library automaticly. Only problem
is that its real format which is a drag. Not to argue or anything but I
haven't seen a big difference in winamp and windows meedia player,
though. Winamp plays .ogg. Is that the only player that does? Or is
there a pluggin for wmp?
