Hi Kathy.  It sounds like you have the software configured to detect the 
headphones and d turn off the speakers.  I'm assuming the Audigy 2 has this 
feature.  I have an Audigy 4 Pro which may be different.  If you can find 
Creative Audio Console, in there you can go to the headphones tab and turn 
that feature off.  See if this helps.

Also, there are Creative programs that run at startup that may be disabled 
in Startup Manager.

You might want to join the Creative user forums for more help.
