Hmm...while we're on the subject of mp3 players. Why not find a sansa e or c
200 series player and put rockbox on it. You can get these for 20 dollars or
less.
Might I add that the stream and plextalk are meant for 2 totally different
parts of the market? The plextalk isn't superior to the stream in any way,
shape, or form - its just a different player all together and saying that
its "above the stream" is just plain silly.
I haven't recharged my stream for about 18 hours of use. Which, I think is
great, since it has a USB thumb drive plugged into it. The stream is too
big? hrm..I don't think so.
Oh and there's a big price difference here too - for the sansa and things, I
mean. If all you're going to do is play mp3 files, get a sansa. I'd be glad
to show you how to put rockbox on it. (Oh, by the way. If it says anything
about audible on the packaging, don't buy it; its the model 2, which rockbox
doesn't support).
You could also probably find an iriver or iaudio - or maybe even a tasheeba
gigabeat player somewhere too. A bit older, but they work perfect - at
least, my ipod video 30 gb does.
Might I add that the sansa supports voice recording and does an ok job of it
too?

Hi bruce and all
As I stated on another list, I must also agree with you. I don't think
the
two devices are really in composition. They are meant for two slightly
different segments of the market. But I do believe plextor has come up
with
a winner here.

I would suggest that the best comparison to make is that the Plextalk is a
very good recorder that has some playback functionality, and the Stream is
a
very good player that has some recording functionality. As has been said
elsewhere. they are both very good for what they have been designed to do.
The size difference is minute. The battery life of the Stream is
considerably longer than that of the Plextalk, so if it is playback
capability you are after, seriously consider the Stream, which plays MP3.
OGG Vorbis, Windows Media, braille, TXT, HTML, rich text, FLAC, and more
in
terms of file format. If it is primarily recording you are interested in,
then I would say the Plextalk is your best bet, with its stereo recording
capability and line-in jack, etc. Both devices have their place, and it is
irresponsible to say (and I think I'm decoding the spelling correctly)
that
one is just a way better player in every respect, because that is simply
not
true.

i would also like to take notice that the plex talk pocket is far
above what the stream can do in quality and portablity since the
victor reader stream is bigger then the plex talk pocket the pocket
will fit in your pocket it right now does not play ogg files but it
can play mp3s, wav files, txt files html files and has the most clear
sounding microphone i have heard in a small accessible device the mic
is even better then the streamsmicrophone you can also record much
more with the pocket like tapes, audio, and radio since it has a built
in externalmic/line in jack.
the price is 360 dollars and one place to get it is IRTI and they are
very helpful in the questions i have asked their answers are totally
thoural and this device will surpass the stream cause of what it can
do.
