This proves you should never overlook the simple things first. My sound card just wasn't showing up in windows because I just didn't have it seeded properly. I'm embarrassed to admit that. I did find other complex reasons why this could happen however so naturally I thought it was one of them since I never would make the mistake of not plugging hardware in properly.
