The next thing to I player might be CBC Radio Canada.
Go to http://www.cbc.ca and look for radio 3 where they have all kinds of
streaming audio feeds and concerts.

run by the BBC, which gets a licence fee from everyone who watches live

in the uk. Alas I have no suggestions for the usa, where the funding is
