It does depend exactly what you want to listen to. If you want to receive all kinds of strange stuff, you would be looking at a general coverage receiver like the AOR AR82MK if I remember the name correctly.
I also have a sony world band receiver which is reasonably accessible. It all depends exactly what you want to do. Some of the more complicated ones like the AOR brand have computer interfaces also.
