my problem is that I am trying to remove fan noise on top of PA amplifier hum at the same time , and I guess it will take more experimentation.

Probably a lot of truth in that as I only wanted to reduce some background noise, I copied a sample of the type of noise I wanted to reduce and used that for my envelope.

As you say I could have played around a little more but I was happy with the results I got the first time around, was worried that if I played the result may have been too "Expanded".

Hi,

The noise reduction is adequate in Goldwave as long as you absolutely do not accept any default settings the program gives you, but are willing to play around with it a bit. Soundforge has a better Noise Reduction program, and you can even use this plugin in Goldwave to a certain extent. But, Goldwave will certainly do for a lot of simpler noise reduction tasks.

you would be better off using Audacity for the noise reduction. this is sacrilege but I don't think the noise reduction is to good in goldwave. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Hallsworth" <christopher...@googlemail.com>

Hi all,
My comment is this. I have a license for Total Recorder Professional Edition. I absolutely love it and I'm impressed by the comments I've received regarding my podcasts, short of the fact my voice can sound far away at times. I am not complaining, but if the Noise Reduction in GoldWave is just as good as the Noise Removal process in Total Recorder, then I might upgrade from my one year license to the lifetime license
Thoughts?

Hi folks!

Its been a while since I've played with Goldwave as I prefer to use Amadeus Pro on the Mac but it doesn't hurt to have fingers in the Windows pie<smile>. Anyway to cut a long story short I was given a job where noise reduction in parts was required as part of the audio editing, I can handle this stuff quite easily with Amadeus Pro but as I'd never given the noise reduction function in Goldwave a go before I thought that the ideal opportunity was presenting itself.

To be frank I was amazed at the quality of the result I got for a first try and I'm prepared to stand by the claim I'm about to make and that is the Noise reduction functions of Goldwave rival those which are part of more expensive products such as Sound Forge. Furthermore, the sections in the manual describing how the noise reduction system in Goldwave works are incredibly well written without boring anyone to sleep so all one has to do if they want to try the noise reduction function is to read for a minute or so and the have the basic knowledge required to get started.

So what's Goldwave worth these days, $59.00 or thereabouts? Damn good value for money and I'd almost be tempted to say its a "Giveaway"! when one also considers its many built-in powerful functions and the fact that the author has gone out of his way to make this product accessible.
