Yes, DirecTV does carry the audio description. I watched a described version of the "Wizard of Oz" during the holidays. The Turner channels seem to have the most audio described programs. TNT and the Turner Classic Movies are your best bets. You would probably need to check the manual for the specific receiver you have to see how to access Secondary audio.

Hopefully, we will have more audio description later this year when the FCC mandate goes into effect in July. Unfortunately, it only calls for 50 hours of audio described programming from each network per quarter. We shall see how much difference that makes!

So, does DirecTV definitely carry it if the locals over the air do? My parents have that in the livingroom and bedroom, and finding out this way would be the easiest way to know if the locals here have it since they probably don't know themself that CBS even does it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hank Smith" <hanksm...@hanksmith.net>

I know that CSI and NCIS are described. Maybe Criminal Minds is too, but I'm not sure if one can turn the description thing on. I know my mom still has an OTA TV hooked up in the kitchen, but I don't know if it has the right capability.

Windows Media Center records in .wtv format, which is described as Windows Recorded TV. If all you want to do with the files is to watch them in Media Center, there shouldn't be any problem. I don't know if other players support this format.

As soon as I find some TV with audio description, I'll try to record it. At the moment, I can only get ABC and CBS networks on my tuner, along with some independent channels. If anyone knows of programs on ABC or CBS that are described, let me know.

Hi,
If I remember correctly mediacenter records in a format complicated to be converted into somethink more usefull like mpg or ts, and I don't know if with mediacenter you can record all the streams included in the channel like a secondary audio stream.

It's true that there is other software that can operate a tuner card and schedule recordings, but accessibility is not guaranteed. The advantages of Media Center are that in the program itself, the controls are standard, eliminating the need for any scripts, and you can read the descriptions of each program in the Program Guide. Also, Media Center comes with Windows, giving us a standard user interface to work with. Media Center in Vista and Windows 7 must be fairly similar since my remote control that was designed for Vista also works well with Media Center in Windows 7.

I'll let Jianluca answer for himself, but as he says in his email he
uses the software that comes with his USB TV tuner card from Hauppauge.
He says this software is accessible.

I did something a few years ago, using the software that came with a TV tuner card I got cheap. I think the software was PVR by KWorld. I don't recall the manufacturer of the TV tuner card, but like I said, this was a few years ago, so I'm sure neither the TV tuner card or the software is still around. I just use this as an example that there may be other software out there besides Windows Media Center that let's you control
and record from your TV tuner card.

Hi Folks, I'm sorry, but I haven't been able to get more than 2 out of 7, email addresses of the people who said they wanted to be in on

Brett Boyer's and Gary Kings email addresses worked, but the
following did not:
Steven Hics, David Tanner, Brent Harding, Hamit Campos and Gary Wood.

I'd be glad to pass on the information I have to who ever would be willing to take this conversation project on. I think we could all
