That's exactly what I intend to do. By the way, I think you meant to say external sound card, not synth. Someone was already confused by that, and didn't know how an external synth could be used for audio. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rob Tabor" <rob.ta...@sbcglobal.net>

Good morning Dave and list members,

An external synth is certainly a workable solution to your recording
dilemma. However, if you go that route I would advise you to use your sound
card to run JAWS and use the external synth for other audio for the simple
reason that if you lose speech it will be much easier to rule out hardware
failure as a cause. For example, if you hear Windows system warning sounds
you will be able to rule out hardware failure if you have JAWS configured to run on the system's internal soundcard. Conversely, it will be much harder
to rule out hardware failure if JAWS is configured to run on the plugin
speech box. It's just a thought to ponder and I hope it helps.

Best regards,
Rob "Jayhawk" Tabor

I've been trying to avoid external sound cards in order to keep the laptop
portable, but there might not be any other solution. Thank goodness for
these new and improved operating systems that do everything except what you
need them to do.

Yes.A usb sound card for speech is a good idea. You can even get usb
digital speakers that are fine with Jaws such as the Palo Alto Audio
Design Musik Digital Multimedia Speakers for arounf $50. Or a usb
sound bar for laptops. Be sure it acts as a sound card as well as
drawing power from usb. This is the simplest solution I've found. I
did have a problem with Jaws not responding or speaking quickly if it
hadn't been talking for a while but somehow that is fixed.

They are not good for music having no bass or treble but pretty good
with speech.

Also, another sound card for speech, but you said that would be
difficult, but maybe a usb one would work.

Hi Dave,
The only way around this is to get a trippletalk external synth.
Another way is to get the virtual cable. Don't ask me anything
about virtual cables , I haven't got one yet.
I only know it's about $50.
I think it might do the trick.

Access isn't a problem with Total Recorder. In fact, it's one of the
easiest, most fully-featured programs. It just can not record in Win
7 or 8 without getting the screen reader in the mix. Can Audacity?
It seems to me, there should be some way to do in 7 or 8 something
that was so easy in XP.

hi,
little misser about jaws.
you got to press jaws key + space then s, for speech on / off.

Why not use the fully accessible audacity, which is an amazing tool
for recording and editing audio.
Best regards
Brian

Hi, I suggest you update total recorder to the latest version, then
you choose "software recording" and you just switch off jaws speech
buy pressing insert plus space (before recording) and the same
keystroak again to put speech back on, if you have jaws ten or
older, you would need to use insert plus v, press the end key and
then spacebar to turn speech off and then enter.

Hello,
I'm looking for a program I can use to record things like internet
streams from Hulu, YouTube etc, as well as my slingbox, Rhapsody
and so on. In short, I want to record stuff I hear on my PC. The
problem I'm having is that the program I currently use, Total
Recorder, is unable to record the audio I want without also
recording the screen reader, Jaws. In XP, Total Recorder could
separate the audio streams and keep Jaws out of the recording, but
it can't do it in Windows 7 or 8. Is there another program I can
use that will do this? I could use 2 sound cards, 1 for JAWS, 1
for stuff I want to record, but I'm using a laptop. So I'd have to
take the computer, external sound card, and headphones or speakers
everywhere I go, which is quite annoying. Any help is greatly
appreciated.
