Is it possible the new computer had no operating system and the engineer simply copied the old primary (C) drive to the new computer drive possibly using an external SATA drive.

Subject: re transferring programmes

Hi, what happened is this. my son-in--law's computer died. the man he
called in to look at it, said the mother board was caput. so, he went
out and bought another computer. he then called the same man back. he
connected some sort of gadget to the old computer, and coppied all
the programmes onto it. he then plugged the gadget in to the new
computer, and transferred the programmes over. it took about ten
minutes. i have never heard of this before. brian.
