Thank you for your fine explanation of these media players.

Hi Colin,

Firstly, .m3u is more generic and will generally open the media player you have
as the default for opening .mp3 files. This can be
Winamp, Windows Media Player or something else. .pls is more specifically for
Winamp and the equivalent for Windows Media Player is
.asx. Also, .ram is for RealPlayer and .qtl is for the QuickTime player. It
should be noted however, that if you select all file
types in Winamp, it will take over .asx.

The format for file names in a .asx file is the same as for a .m3u file.

Thanks,

Greetings,

Please can anybody tell me if there is a format for Media Player like
WinAmp, where the playlist can be given as a file with a specific extension
which if I remember rightly is something like .m3u or .pls or . . .

I need to send .mp3 files out as .zip archives, which when extracted and
played in Media Player, play track-by-track-by-track enabling a person to
skip but also the files must play in WinAmp, so I need include a .m3u file.

also, would I simply put the files into the playlist file like for WinAmp,
for example:

track-01.mp3
track-02.mp3
. . .

Thanks.
