I'm getting the impression that function keys start you in whatever function you want. The problem for me at this time is that when I start NBR, I get what looks like a splash screen and the only way I can punch through it is to pick the option presented by Windows when it asks me what I want to do such as play cd in WMP, etc. I can pick that and then the f keys let me go wherever I want, but I resent it. I'm playing with the trial copy. I don't want to buy the full package with lots of software I don't want to use. I will look at Andrea's suggestions and see what's easiest to use. I remember when Nero was a pleasure to use, but I also remember that tech support was crap.

Yeah I get that. What I meant that I tried either the last version or 2
before this and well at least burning worked like Rick showed. How about
burning, they change that too?

Sure. But it was 7. It's 2015 now.

Go to www.blind-geek-zone.net and look in the audio section. It's one of
Rick Harmon's older shows, but he'll show you what to do. Unless you're
suggesting it's finally changed. I forget what the latest burning rom I
tried was, but most of what Rick showed in that old 2006 podcast still
worked. Have you used Burning Rom before?

I'm looking at Nero Burning Rom 2015 and I can't figure out how to get to
rip in MP3 format and select the settings. Anyone tried it? Thanks.
Also, any other useable rippers using Gracenote, please advise.
Thanks.
