I've had the set now for a fortnight and have a good feel as to how it
works and what the set does or doesn't do.
No, the Gigaset C610IP doesn't have any speech functionality but it does
have plenty of other attributes to sell itself.
Audio clarity is amongst the best I've heard on any phone - whether that
be corded, cordless, mobile or any other type of phone -.
Construction is incredibly tough, made out of tough plastic with nice
plastic buttons, none of that horrible rubber membrane rubbish for the
keypad.
Buttons sound a short audible click, no loud annoying beep which is a
common annoyance of most other cordless telephones.
Many actions when performed cause the phone to sound various tones, for
example if you hold down the hash key to lock the keypad the phone will
sound a tone to confirm that the phone is locked, hold down the hash key
again and the phone will sound another tone to indicate the keypad is
now unlocked. Many other tones exist such as a distinguishing tone to
indicate that the phone has been turned off or on, another to indicate
that the phone is now booted and ready to use etc.
I have 3 lines working with the Gigaset C610IP telephone, two VOIP lines
and the PSTN - standard - phone line and all have distinctive rings so I
can easily identify which line I have to answer, this is the default
behaviour of the telephone.
The Gigaset C610IP can be set from its HTML interface, indeed all the
settings I've described can be found in the comprehensive interface
presented.
The Gigaset C610 would be right at home in a family setting as it
provides connection to all your favourite information services, updates
to your email, updates to eBay accounts, a unit converter, News updates,
horoscope and more. No, we can't use these services given we can't read
the nice large colour screen but other family members can so how about a
couple of handsets? The system can support up to 6 which can be
individually customised to suit each users needs.
Range indoors is 50 meters and outdoors is 300 meters and I hope to test
thins in coming days.
I've done some tests for audio quality with others and they've reported
back that - apart from sounding a little furry - and a little distorted
if speaking too close to the microphone - - the audio quality is very
good, certainly from VOIP to VOIP its fantastic but limited when talking
to someone on a phone connected to the PSTN as you would expect.
The gigaset C610IP handsets have a standby time of around 300 hours and
a talk time of around 26 hours, that's not bad.
Charging takes around 8 hours and the handset runs on 2 rechargeable AAA
batteries which are supplied.
