I have one of those drives, they are really nice. (Like to try out one of
the new 24x burners though... :) )
I suspect that the internal IDE channel on the 4400 may be too slow to allow
the burner to run at full speed. Go ahead and give it a shot, though. If it
works, good. You've just saved yourself $100+ on a external FireWire
enclosure. :)
As for the bootablility issue, you can always just have an old Apple-branded
external SCSI CD-ROM around for those occasions when you need to boot from a
CD.
