I have a similar dilemma about upgrading as [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I have a 9600/233. Should I bother getting a G4 upgrade or wait until
I can afford a new computer, which isn't in the foreseeable future?
Someone at a local store said that I would have to get all new memory
with a new board. I need new RAM but don't want to have to replace
the 128 I already have. I know RAM is pretty cheap now, but it wasn't
when I put mine in (two upgrades).

Mostly I need a new hard drive. Other World Computing and web sites
I've visited suggest going with an IDE drive. But the same store I
was at yesterday said I should put in a SCSI drive, since I already
have the SCSI chain. OWC said they can't even get SCSI drives
anymore. Is this store just trying to sell me old things they have no
market for? I think I'm a little confused by all the terms of
"Ultra-Wide SCSI", IDE, etc. Also, I've seen different reviews for
IDE drives, some recommending Maxtor and others liking Seagate
(Barracuda or Cheetah). I know I'll have to put in a PCI card and
cables. But that shouldn't make much difference. The guy at the store
said that when I do get a new computer, I can still use a SCSI drive
since I'll have to put in a SCSI card anyway for my scanner (new and
good-not going to replace).
