I think the above would be the best value. Most (or all?) external Firewire drives are actually ATA (ATA ULTRA) drives with a Firewire interface. I've had a 4GB LaCie external Firewire drive for a few months now and am very happy with it. One good thing about external drives is you can take them elsewhere (hot swapable). OTOH they cost more because they have a power supply and an ATA/Firewire interface. Since the Firewire interface is faster than the drive, I suppose the speed difference with internal ATA is comparable.
