This sounds vaguely familiar. In my case, if I'm having problems with my broadband (DSL) I first check my ISP's Status condition web site with the modem to see if there's any wide outage. If that's OK, I call their tech line and listen for any pre-recorded messages, which are updated more often than the web site. If that's OK, I talk to a tech. If they can't find anything wrong on their end, they ask for me to disconnect the Ethernet, wait 30 secs and reboot. The first time this happened was on my very first day of service and you know I was gritting my teeth at some PC guy saying I needed to reboot my Mac. My computer? Did I mention, sir, I'm using a Mac?! Wouldn't you know it -- it worked. I asked him what he "did" to fix it and her said nothing, it's just that these OSes aren't so good with long term connections and sometimes forget what they are doing, so a reset of the Ethernet port is necessary. But that's a huge generalization, because we all know Macs can stay active on a network for weeks at a time without a reboot and not have network problems. I think what happens is they send some garbage our way that corrupts the works. I'm gonna try the control panel reset first next time before rebooting. -David -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
