Short answer: OS X does not support the 8500 at all.

Long answer: there are several utilities that help you install OS X on 
unsupported hardware, but several of them aren't much worth the effort. 
Get XPostFacto and it may help you (can be found on VersionTracker).

Personally, I wouldn't bother with OS X on an 8500 unless you had a ton 
of RAM (preferably metric) and perhaps a G3 or G4 upgrade card. YMMV.
