Hi Jim
 If you have upgraded Quicktime to version 5.0 look for a file named
QuickTime JPEG updater in your extensions folder.  Drag it out of your
extensions folder and this will put a stop to your Desktop problems.
 This is a bug that seems to affect those running Mac OS 8.6 only.
