I use Mac OS X on a tricked out PowerMac 7500 with XPostFacto (freeware;
http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/) and can tell you from
experience, do not mix up your partitions! Keep your regular System Folder
as it is and use a different partition to install OS X (must be within the
first 8 gigs of the drive if I remember correctly). Within OS X, it will
allow you to upgrade to Mac OS 9.2.2. This System will not be usable to
boot with, etc., and is only good for running the Classic environment within
OS X. If you mix the systems, it could cause trouble down the line.

As long as your have the drive space, it works out great. OS X reminds me
of all the fun I used to have with my Amiga 3000 and it's operating system.
