What you'll really need is a router, not a switch. All a switch does is 
wire everything together, while a router acts like a bridge between your 
internal LAN and the outside word. Technically speaking, a switch might do 
it if your ISP allows you multiple IPs, but fewer and fewer are so it's not 
a safe bet.

Most routers don't need or use any software, they're configured via a web 
browser. Despite other peoples' experiences, I've had good luck with 
Linksys routers.
