Some system restore CD's contain the OS software to allow full installs
of their info unobstructed by "other" installers also contained within.
I bought an iMac restore CD that contains OS 8.5.1 on ebay, and it has
installed 8.5 on every machine I have here, namely 7300, 75-7600,
5200/75, 5260/100, and my upgraded to 5400/180. I did experience
difficulty on one install of a 2nd 5400/180. It wouldn't install. So I
had to install 9.1 instead. Can't understand why it wouldn't install. It
went through the motions and about half way through it just would stop
installing. Not a problem with the CD Rom as I successfully installed
off of the 9.1 that I have, afterward.

If you are going to buy any Mac stuff off of ebay... READ the
description CAREFULLY! I have been mistaken with the compatibility of
some stuff purchased on ebay, but find that the software can prove to be
very reasonably priced and ebay a good place to pick up older titles
that might still have plenty of life left in them.
