Does it chime? The very first thing we need to know (after whehter
it powers up) is whether it chimes. Knowing where in teh start-up
process it fails (for any Mac, PCI or earlier or later) is one of the
most important pieces of diagnostic information. The process steps
go something like:

power on
chimes
gray screen
disk icon/flashing question mark
smiling mac
OS splash screen
loading extensions
etc.

So where in that list is your machine failing. I'd guess after power
on and before chimes. That's going to be either a power supply or a
mother board problem most likely. Might be RAM. I think if you
pull the motherboard, you can plug a IIci power supply into the MB
power supply connector.

My reasoning is thus. The IIci power supply uses the same
connector/signal arrangement as the IIcx, IIvi, IIvx, Q700, C650,
Q650 and 7100. The Q650 motherboard is the same as the Q800 and the
Q800 will go in the same case as the Q840, I think. So the Q840
should be able to use a IIcx, IIci, IIvi, IIvx, Q700, C650, Q650,
7100 and Q800 power supply, if you pull the MB out of the case so
that you can get the two connectors together. One or more of those
links may be mistaken, so I could be wrong...
