The Apple 250 MHz and beyond are 604ev processors.

The clone 250 MHz (and perhaps beyond) are 604e processors.

The -ev's were designed for the Mach5 architecture (on-card cache, etcetera);
the -e's were designed for the pre-Mach5 architecture (on-mobo cache,
etcetera).
