9600s hold reasonable value these days as they're quite a desirable
machine (6 slots, G4/800 upgrades, lots of room for hard disks, etc). I
couldn't say what their value is in the US but in Australia AU$400+ is
usual. I paid AU$500 for a 9600/200MP (very rare here). Mac 5 models
(300/350) can go as high as AU$700, depending on spec.
9600s are a doodle to get into (Apple learnt their lesson after the
Quadra 800/PM 8x00 series case). Big translucent green button up to the
top opens and detaches the entire side panel. Inside, two latches
release to allow the entire drive bay/power supply section to swing
out, giving full access to RAM slots, etc. without touching a
screwdriver (or, in the case of an 8500, pulling your machine to bits).
