I have though many times about a G3/4 card for my 8600. Every time I have thought about it, I come up with "no" for an answer. Of course every one is entitled to reach their own conclusions and my opinions are not meant to convince anyone of the rightness or wrongness of any decision. Main reason is that there is simply no need for increased speed for what I am doing. The only reason I think of getting a G3/4 card is to run OS X. I have run OS X on a Wallstreet. OS X was a compromise on the Wallstreet which is a newer machine and would be an even bigger compromise on the 8600. I fully intend to move on to OS X, and personally I feel any resources spent on an upgrade card would simply be a distraction from that goal and not a worthwhile solution for running X. What specifically do you want to know about the Orange PC card? I use Apple's PCI DOS card in my 8600. I had a couple older Orange PC cards and perhaps have the software for the cards. Orange PC card is different from the Apple card, but not substantially different. I think the thing to keep in mind with these is that they are as past their prime as our PCI Macs are. They are really nice and fast if you need a DOS applications or a Win95 application, but they are slow relative to a new machine. Also keep in mind that both the Orange PC Card and Apple DOS card only work with MS operating systems. They will not run BeOS not with they run any variant of Linux, nor even any of the DOS variants. They are very tied to Microsoft operating systems. bill -- \/\i||i@^^ ()\/e -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
