A while back, I asked the list for their take on the best AV PCI mac
out there, and the overwhelming response was the 8600. After looking
really seriously at the 8600, I found that the beige G3 has great AV
capabilities as well. Pro's and cons anyone? (I know, this is a
once-removed machine, but I promise not to bring up OSX! :-) )

Also some beige G3's are designated by an MT or a DT or something...
what does that stand for?

I guess I just like the RCA/S-video outputs and the ability to work
with Apple Video Player. Is there any aftermarket hardware that will
be recognized by Apple Video Player and can be used via USB or
Firewire? Or is there an updated piece of software that does the
tv/vhs capturing that Apple Video Player does?

My excuse for skidding along the ragged edges of the PCI topic is my
love for my 5500/250 AV, but my wish for more horsepower without going
the upgrade card route.

*  L2 upgrade card = $189.00
*  Beige G3/300 AV= $150.00

...the math makes sense to me....
