I saw a site once - can't find it now. The fellow had made his own
silent mounts for noisy hard discs as follows.

2 sheets of 5 mm (1/4 inch) aluminium plate, a little wider than the HD.
Drill holes at the four corners.
Mount HD in between.
Bolts through the corner holes to clamp plates down on HD.
Stuff foam around the edges.
Mount whole assembly on rubber bands.

The aluminium dissispates heat while absorbing noise, and the rubber
band mounts (a bit excessive IMHO) stop noise being transmitted to
the case.

world is connected by a series of knots. If anyone thinks that the
mesh of a net is an independant, isolated thing, he is mistaken.
It is called a net because it is made up of a series of connected
meshes, and each mesh has its place and responsibilities in relation
to other meshes."
