There is, I believe, two levels of "sleep". There's one where the monitor 
blanks, which will come back with a mouse movement, then full sleep that 
requires a keypress or click.

Could be the cause of the confusion. I just gave my 6500 away to someone 
who would use it more than me, so I can't test it.
