Either a G3 or a G4 in either a processor card/processor combination, or a
ZIF card/ZIF.

I've heard that the six slots have caused problems for some cards. Is this
true?

Six slot machines have problems, period.

These problems are not addressed by processor card/processor combination
upgrades, but are by addressed certain ZIF card/ZIF upgrades, those labeled "Six
Slot Edition" or "SSE", but not others.

Best results in a 9500 or 9600 is obtained with an SSE ZIF card and any
compatible ZIF, but other, non-SSE solutions work in many cases.
