We just moved our mac network at work, which is primarily a bunch of 7200s and 9500s strung together around a G4 server. We have a 3com superstack II hub and we have a DSL modem plugged into an Asante Friendlynet Router. The router has four ports and a wan port. Modem is plugged into the WAN port and the network is wired to the hub by an ethernet cable.
I can plug the modem into the computer directly via ethernet and using access software to access the internet. I can plug the computer into the router and the modem into the router and access the Internet through the router's built-in connection software. But what I want to do is plug the modem into the router and the router into the superstack II so that every computer on our network can then access the net. This worked at our old location, but I can't get the network part working at the new location. On individual stations, we set appletalk to ethernet and TCP to DHCP server. We can see at each machine (by looking at the TCP control panel) that the router is successfully assigning individual IP addresses, but when we try and reach an internet address, it tries unsuccessfully to load pages. Anybody got a suggestion? The modem lights even seem to flash briefly when trying to access a site. I thought perhaps the router had lost its settings, but like I said, when I hook the computer and modem to the router and leave the network out of it, the computer accesses the net through the router's software.
