This keeps happening. It is intermittent. It happens on both ethernet

CABLES (I have tried several printer cables as well as the NEW

Generally I can get it working again by resetting AppleTalk from
printer port to ethernet or the other way round, though I can
guarantee that it WILL lose the printer again eventually.

IS there a known software problem which can cause this?

   9600/200 G3, lotsa RAM & HD, OS9.1

Do you use Apple Printer Utility-PPC?

Free d/l from Apple. My 8500 works well with it.

Have it. Doesn't help. In fact it refused to turn off the test page for many weeks after installation, though test page was disabled. BUT it has just responded to the command... I suppose better late than never.

Anyway, I now keep both printer & ethernet cables connected... so that when one connection becomes unrecognized, I can change over without touching the cables.
