When a drive is parked it means that the heads have been moved to a safe spot for landing. At one time you had to manually park a drive prior to shutting it down. But drives have been auto-parking for so long no one really has to think about this anymore. It sounds as though your drive went to sleep or otherwise shutdown and is not responding to a wake up call.
