Is the Zip the only device on the external SCSI? Have you tried the Zip on the other Mac? (Make sure the 7600 is up and operational without the Zip drive attached first and with all data that you don't want to lose copied over.)
If it works on the other mac, you can rule out 2 and 4 below. If it works with 3 below, suspect a virus or some type of other disk borne problem. You can check 5 below if you have another external device that you can connect. 1. I assume you have the correct Iomega Zip extension installed. 2. It could be that the Zip drive or disk is bad and it's feeding some type of signal back to the SCSI bus that tells your hard drive to shut down. (Wasn't there a virus that would do that some time ago? I believe it gave the hard drive a spin down command and then on restart ate the drive's Master Directory or something similar.) 3. What happens if you try the ZIP without a disk or with a different disk? (The drive should be recognized by Profiler with or without a disk inserted.) 4. It could be that your external SCSI cable is not really a SCSI cable. The PC serial (?) cable looks the same, but If memory serves, it is wired differently internally.) Also check inside both ends of the cable for bent or missing pins and in the jacks (on the MB and in the back of the Zip drive) for anything that might be shorting the cable pins. (I've seen broken pins stuck in jacks and laying across solder joints behind the jacks.) 5. It could be that there is a problem with your external SCSI bus in the MB jack or supporting circuits. Hope this helps some. Zip drives are handy gadgets when they work. Unfortunately, mechanically, they are real pieces of s__t that aren't properly supported by Iomega.
