You need to set the SCSI ID, supply power to the drive and check the termination.
(Off if not the farthest device from the motherboard end of the ribbon cable and
On if the farthest device from the motherboard on the ribbon cable.)

All of my 68 to 50 pin adapters have SCSI ID setting pins and all of my SCSI 3
devices have a jack for the power plug beside the SCSI jack. For a larger than 4.5
gig drive, you need to use an adapter with 9LNT. (9 Line Negative Termination.)

picture. The pins on the far right of the right hand picture are the SCSI ID pins.
