For some reason utilities like those mentioned can't do as good a job as
low level format in DOS. In cases like this I mount the SCSI drive via
Adaptec 2940UW card on a PC (I bought the card specifically to resuscitate
unmountable Mac drives), open Adaptec's control panel (Command + A) which
will detect the drive and do low level format (3 hours for a 9 gig; 6 hours
for 36 gig). Once a directory is written Drive Setup will see the drive.
