Hello! I have a nice 7300 with OS 9.1, 320mb ram, a 4gig IBM hard drive
and a new Newertech 266mhz (I think) G3 upgrade card. It was previously
running the stock 180mhz PPC processor. The memory is made up of 2 128mb
chips and some 16mb chips that were already in the machine. Before the
upgrade, the computer ran flawlessly, I mean rock solid. After the
upgrade, I can boot up, open folders, access folders and such. But the
second I try to open Internet Explorer, SoftWindows 95 or Outlook
Express, I have about 10 seconds before the machine freezes, just plain
locks up. It appears that any large program opening does it; simply
opening a folder or emptying the trash is not enough to do it. I have
tried unplugging the cache chip, running it WITH the chip in, various
settings in the Newertech control panel, reset the PRAM switch each
time, rebuilt the desktop, etc... All the usual stuff we do. Nothing helps.
What gives? Any advice?
.................Mike T.
