Can I just buy a new one and stick it in one of my many PCI expansion slots?

Sure, but do download the latest Mac driver for same, and do return it if a
Mac driver is not provided or available for download.

Some (late DLink, e.g.) have Mac support. Others don't.

OfficeMax had a special on one brand of 10/100 cards, and after all in-store
and mail-in rebates, the net-net cost was $4.95. It worked perfectly in my PTP
225s and Mac 9600s.
