final result of pulling mobo & reseating ram, now it will not even start up!!!
yes - lots of weird stuff comes up when batteries die
Maybe I will just trash os9 entirely & go back to os8.1, THAT worked...
maybe reinstall the 9.1 entirely - or move the preference file out onto the desktop and restart, letting the machine create a brand new preference folder - that will fix the problem with crooked invisible pref files. and then move all the other needed preferences back into the new pref folder manually.
as I said - I had this problem with some IIsi and they turned out to be broken, this problem was also mentioned somewhere by apple ? back then.
