The 6500 doesn't, properly speaking, have ethernet on the logic board. It has an Apple-proprietary slot (called a Communications Slot II, or Comm Slot II for short) for either an internal modem or a ethernet card -- usually the Apple Twisted Pair ethernet card is what is encountered, but I believe there wwre some 3rd party aftermarket cards offered for it. If the jack is down under the PCI slots on the back of the 6500, & has a little diode beside the RJ-45 jacj it's probably 1 of the Apple 1s. I have a 6500 w/ Apple CS II ethernet card that I installed a SCSI drive with 8.6 on in place of the IDE card (long story). This drive had been installed with 8.6 while it was in a 7100. The installer didn't put the file "Apple Ethernet CS II" into the Extensions folder, & until I figured out what the problem was, & installed that driver, the 6500 wouldn't recognize the ethernet card for love or money ( -- & believe me, I offered both! ;-).) So evidently the 8.6 installer (actually it was an 8.5.1 disk) doesn't automatically install the right drivers. Or maybe it was because it was an install CD specifically for the Blue & White G3 -- which, of course, doesn't have a CS II slot. If you need the file & don't want to re-install the whole system, it email me off-list. -- Bill Art page: <http://geocities.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]> -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
