Thanks to those who have replied concerning this issue. The PRAM  battery is 
less than 2 years old, and seems to be okay, based on calendar/clock  display. 
The computer has had this issue for at least 2 years. I can't recall  when it 
started doing it, but I know it has not always displayed this problem. I  
also know that I fixed it once, but don't remember how/what I did! The most  
recent major configuration change I have made was to add a newer USB  card 
about a 
year ago, but I always depress and hold the CUDA button whenever I  open up 
the case to do anything, which is seldom.
