Hmm. I think that a "Y" adapter wouldn't work as it can't "clone"
the serial address that the machine expects to see. There are 
switch boxes (I have a stack of them) but, of course, you can only
use one device at a time. Also, for some devices you may have to 
restart the computer to get the switched device recognized.

I seem to recall that KeySpan used to make devices that would allow
two active serial ports out of one.

Another way, admittedly a kludge, would be to insert a PCI card with 
USB ports, then use one of the still available KeySpan USB to serial
converters (going for $20 to $40 on eBay).
