There's also software called SCSIProbe that can do this, I have a couple of
versions and are small and can send offlist if you want them, Pat.

But here is a plan for you that need not involve any such fiddling: After I
shut down my computer, I pull the plug that goes to the board that goes to
the boards that goes to other boards that powers everything I want on. In my
case I have "off" my external local HD switch as I only need it for
occasional backups. If you always want the external on when you are
computing, you could leave the switch on (as indeed I do with an external
zip). Clear as mud?
