Lovek gives advice (I don't have the exts he mentioned so maybe I followed
his advice ages ago unknowingly?) and I second his technique of just
indexing particular folders and things when needed - sometimes i will put a
whole bunch of "likely" folders on a zip and index that to find things...

The other thing I can suggest is (1) look for sherlock preferences in your
system folder and throw them out (2) take a look and see there is no funny
business in the energy control panel settings (unlikely, the ten minute
business sounds like you are right about a sherlock schedule)
