Can anyone tell me if the built-in 10baseT ethernet port on my 8600/G3/500 is really fast enough for Comcast cable, now that they've upgraded to 4Meg service? Or should I invest in a PCI card thats 100baseT? If the answer is yes, might you suggest a good place to pick one up?

10MBits/s is fine for 4MBits/s Cable. You might get slightly higher performance with a 100BaseT card (assuming your cable modem is 100BaseT). But it's iffy that your 8600 could make use of it.

10BaseT has a a bit transfer rate of 10MB/s but depending on the controllers at both ends you may not get that speed from one machine to another. Ethernet is above all a network and it is designed around having multiple clients talking to multiple servers rather than a single client talking to a single server.
