I keep this powermac around simply to play with and upgrade, so cost effectiveness isn't as much of an issue since the computer as a whole is just a project machine.

My Power Macintosh 5500/225 is upgraded with:
a Sonett L2 400 MHz G3 with a 1 Mb L2 Cache
128 Mb RAM, the max it'll accept
a 13 Gb Hard Drive
a USB/FireWire OrangeLink+ PCI card, works great
the TV Tuner
the video out card

and that's all.
I'm thinking of a CD-RW, internal ,of course. Any tips?

The MOBO upgrade is not cost effective. Better go for a G3 upgrade. They are not very expensive, so if you can, go for the G3.
Best regards.
