Ok, I am not sure what all I am hearing here. I did use OS 9 helper to install on the 8600/ which is upgraded with a sonnet G3 450 card and I did do it my self. However it would not work on my 9600 which is upgraded with a sonnet G3 500 card. My 9600 does have 9.1 installed.
What occurs to me is the question of which mobos are we talking about? I've heard that some of the Kansas boards don't take too kindly to G3 upgrades, etc. I know that the one time I G3'ed one (8600/300) I wasn't thrilled with its subsequent performance; I pulled the G3 for another Mac and reinstalled the Mach V. I wonder if you would get better results by reinstalling a 604e processor before trying to use OS 9 Helper...?
Now if I am hearing that some 9600 motherboards will not install 9.2.2, if I installed it on the drive on another machine, how well will 9.2.2 work on the 9600?
I'd suspect that will work fine if you use OS 9 Helper to do the install in another Old World Power Mac.
