What's a good MPEG-2 encoder to make a video file suitable for burning to DVD in Toast 5.2.1? I think I might be able to burn DVDs in 9.2.2 on my 8500, if Toast will recognize an 8x Toshiba DVD-Ram SDR5372 connected via SCSI bridge.

Are you saying this dirve is a RAM drive yet will burn a standalone DVD ?
Several times over the past 2 years there have been threads asking about the possibility of just hooking up a DVD drive.
And those whop claim success seem to always cite glitches and problems.
I wish you a lot of luck on this and hope you will let us know your hardware/software configuration and the relevant details.

Toast 5 seem to have some rudimentary support for DVD-Ram (I think, just by looking at the scroll down menus). Roxio Drive Databse lists a Toshiba SDR-6372 so maybe it just might work. All I need is to to try and burn a DVD and use an external standalone player to view it.
