from my knowledge of pcs *ick* and my many years messing around inside them, you can buy adapters that plug into a hard drive power connector, without using the connector up, as they have a passthrough, and give you a 3pin fanheader connector. a lot easier than messing around with the connectors yourself, and you should be able to find them very cheaply in most computer shops, or on ebay. i know i can pick one up for about 1.50 gbp
