I'd like to install a video card with 16 MB if I could find one that would work. I'm having trouble finding the system requirements for specific ones.
I've found these 2 that I think will work, does anyone know for sure if they'll work on the 9500 with 8.6?
ATI Rage Orion 32 Bit 16MB
16MB ATI Rage 128 Pro
Or any others that I'm missing that will work. I'm looking to pay $40 or less. I have both Mac and PC monitors available so it doesn't matter if it's a flashed PC card (altho I'm not sure if I can flash a card myself, never have done that!)
I have used the Radeon 7000 under OS 8.6 and it seemed to work--i.e. no crashes, etc. But I do not know for a certainty that 3D acceleration was working properly.
I extracted the OpenGL 1.2.2 components and QuickTime 5 components and moved them into the OS 8.6 System Folder. The ATI driver installer won't install the R7000 drivers under OS8.6 so I had to install those in 9.1 and then move them by hand to 8.6. I used the ATI 0210 updater.
However, when all that was done it seemed to work fine. When I stopped selling them, flashed R7000 cards were down around $40. Since the PC version was still about $44, there wasn't much point in converting them for sale any more....
